Our newest BFFs: 5 charities we’re sure you’ll love as much as we do

We want to bring micro-volunteering to your fingertips so everyone can help out, whatever your circumstances. Here are some of the charities we ARE THRILLED TO be featuring.

Did you know that people spend 90% of their mobile time in apps, and only 10% browsing the rest of the internet? Yet most volunteering opportunities are listed on the charity’s own website or costly jobs boards (here’s how volunteering could bag you that job!). This means that unless you know where to look, it can be pretty hard to find them!

To make volunteering easier, Komorabi has developed an app with a variety of bite-sized volunteering tasks in one handy place. You’ll be able to filter the tasks by the amount of time you’ve got to spare – whether that’s 10 minutes or four hours – by causes you’re passionate about, and by how close the tasks are to you.

Here are some of the fantastic charities that we are thrilled to be featuring on our app. They need volunteers to donate and sort clothes, write and send a caring letter, plant bee friendly flowers and lots more. Sign up here to be notified when the app goes live!

Doorstep Library

The Doorstep Library recognises that for various reasons, children from some of the poorest families are less likely to have books at home, are less likely to read with their parents and less likely to read for pleasure. This is why they support vulnerable families with access to books, supported reading and resources, so that all children can discover the power of words.

Friends of the Earth

Here’s a fantastic charity for enthusiastic environmentalists and scientists, it’s never too late to learn or help preserve our planet. FotE are a grassroots environmental campaigning community who have partnered with the UK Centre for Ecology and Hydrology to find out more about the state of British flora and fauna. Among other opportunities, they need people to help with surveys of bees, flowers and insects in their own garden.

The Mix

Could you lend an ear to a young person struggling with their mental health, confused about friendships and relationships, or feeling worried about their finances? The Mix are here to help people aged 13-25 with those “embarrassing problems, weird questions, and please-don’t-make-me-say-it-out-loud thoughts” that we’ve all had. Sometimes, it just takes someone to listen.

Send a Smile

There’s no feeling like the joy of receiving a handwritten card, letter or postcard in the post, and Send a Smile aim to harness that joy to cheer up people who might be struggling. Their mission is to let cancer patients know they are never alone by regularly mailing uplifting greeting cards: from time of cancer diagnosis – through treatment – to survivorship. It only takes a few minutes to put some words of strength on paper, and it could really change someone’s day.

Traid

More than 300,000 tonnes of used clothing goes to landfill in the UK every year, and the majority of those clothes could be re-worn, repurposed or up-cycled to be loved again. Traid encourage you to stop throwing away your clothes, and buy more second hand pieces while you’re at it! Traid run second hand clothes stores across the UK full of great finds. They are always in need of donations and volunteers to staff the shops, which enables proceeds from sales to go to funding international development projects improving conditions and working practices in the textile industry. It’s a win – win – WIN situation.

Drop us an email at hello@komorabi.com if you’d like your micro-volunteering tasks to be featured on our app, launching soon. You’ll be sure to be in good company!
